This is the earth's history drawn to scale. The little red line on the top is the quaternary period. About one-hundredth of that red line is the time humans have been on Earth. That extremely big orange thing at the bottom, in case you don't feel like scrolling, represents 80% of the earth's history. It is called pre-cambrian times, and no life existed then.

Or, if you were to do it with months of the year: Precambrian times would last from the first second of January first, to mid November.
The Paleozoic era would last from mid-November to mid-December.
The Mesozoic era would last from mid-december to the last week of December.
And the Cenozoic era would last from the last week of December to the end of the year.
Humans would have only been around for the last minute of the year. WOW!

Pre-Cambrian times. This takes up over 80% of the earth's history, and there is no life.
