Evolution

I know that some people and some religions believe strongly against evolution, and, if you are one of them, I'd advise that you do not read this page. I am going into the theory of evolution scientifically and according to facts, and your religion shall not clash with mine (which it likely will if you ever contact me).

In this section, I will explain the basics of the Theory of Evolution. I do not want to go too deep into this, however, as it can get very complicated (we're talking, like, college stuff) and even I do not understand it lots. If you are a smart cookie and would like to learn more, please get a nice book.

The Theory of Evolution simply attempts to explain how species get to be the way they are now. For example, we know there were no horses or cats or puppy dogs back in the time of the dinosaurs. So, how did they come to be here now? Evolution says that creatures change slowly and gradually over time, in order to become better. This explains how, over millions of years, a lizard can become something like a dinosaur.

Some guy named Charles Darwin came up with this theory, based on his theory or Natural Selection. Natural Selection simply says that, if an animal by chance is born different, and that certain trait benefits it, it will live to pass on that trait to the next generation. If that trait does not benefit it, it will most likely be killed before it can reproduce, and then the new trait is not passed on. Over millions of years, these simple birth defects can add up to a whole new species!

For example, if a stupid chipmunk is born, and it is so stupid that it runs out in front of a car, it will not live too long. However, the chipmunks that are smart enough to avoid the cars might survive to have baby chipmunks, and that intelligence trait may be passed on to the young ones. Eventually, the chipmunk population will become smarter. It is just like some forms of bacteria have become immune to our medicines.

In conclusion, there are whole textbooks written on evolution, but I have just given you the main idea. Still, this is what the theory is based on, and if you feel up to it, maybe do a little more research into it.
